Veterans Day celebrations were held across the Heartland this year that included everyone from school children to World War II veterans. Local schools celebrated Veterans Day by singing, reciting historical passages and listening to the veterans who shared their stories. Also, read about a work program proposed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that could offer disabled veterans on-the-job training skills in a vocation they are interested in pursuing. A local Bardstown family continues their holiday tradition of putting on a spectacular light show that will run every evening from 5:30-10 p.m. through New Year’s Eve. This year’s light show has more than 32,000 lights. Also, if a pet is on your list for a special family holiday gift, the Humane Society of Nelson County is conducting Iams Home4theHolidays pet adoption campaign. Beginning December through Jan. 4, 2010 they will offer a discount on adoption fees for any cat or dog that has been at the facility for more than 30 days.
