Operation Celebration "A salute to the American family" hosts Yearwood Sept. 28 at Godman Army Airfield on post. The free event begins at 6 p.m. with Katie Rae Davis and Gary Nichols serving as the opening acts.

Yearwood, who is married to country music superstar Garth Brooks, has had such hits as "She's in Love With the Boy," "Perfect Love," "Georgia Rain" and "How Do I Live" during her career.

The Monticello, Ga. native said she wanted to be a country music singer at an early age.

"Most little kids ask Santa Claus for a doll or a bike for Christmas," she says on her Web site. "I was asking for a tape recorder because I wanted to hear my voice on tape. I have tapes of me singing when I was five or six. When I die I'm sure somebody will find them, but not until then."

Yearwood is a two-time winner of the Country Music Association's Female Vocalist Award. She was also inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1999, and her album "Songbook," a collection of her hits, has gone quadruple platinum.

The event is free for all DoD affiliates, friends of Fort Knox and guests. There will be a limit of six tickets per person.

Tickets will be available beginning Monday. The local sponsors of the concert are Nolin RECC, The Lusk Group, The Swope Family of Dealerships, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the United States Automobile Association and Budweiser.
